  1. What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

    Coaching:

    • Focuses on the present and future
    • Asks "What do you want to do?" instead of "Why did you do that?"
    • Views the client as resourceful, skilled, and creative
    • Assists client in discovering their own answers instead of giving them solutions
    • Helps client build an extraordinary life
    • Action-oriented and vision-driven
    • Holds client accountable to the goals and commitment the client sets
    • Coach viewed as a partner with the client

    Therapy:

    • Focuses on the past and present
    • Asks "Why do you feel that way?" instead of "What can do differently?"
    • Views client as flawed and dysfunctional
    • Therapist provides clients with answers and gives client homework
    • Hopes to move client from a dysfunctional life to a normal life
    • Explores feelings rather than vision and values
    • Client may not be invested in change
    • Therapist is viewed as an expert

  2. Why do a complimentary session?

A complimentary session allows you to explore how coaching can meet your needs. It also allows you to explore if I am the right coach for you. It is your opportunity to ask questions about the coaching relationship, discuss your goals, and discover if my personality and coaching style are right for you. You will get the most from your coaching experience when you and your coach are compatible.

  3. Do we meet in-person or by phone?

Most coaching is offered by phone. If you live locally, I offer in-person coaching sessions.

  4. Is coaching by phone and email effective?

Yes, it is very effective. During phone sessions, most clients can find a comfortable place free of visual distractions and focus on the session. Coaching by phone and email is convenient, as well as cost and time effective.

  5. What is the cost?

I offer a range of fees based on the number of sessions and amount of services provided each month. In the complimentary session we will discuss what level of services will work best for you. The Coaching Gym outlines the services available.

  6. How often do we meet?

How often we meet is up to you. You will decide what level of service to use and this will include how often we are in contact.

  7. How long will we work together?

The more committed you are to changing your life, the faster we can make it happen. However there are no quick and easy fixes. For that reason, I recommend a six-month minimum commitment. During that time, you will make significant life changes and learn how to maintain your results. Most of my clients coach with me at least six months, but usually longer.

  8. What can I expect in a coaching session?

You are the leader! 24 hours before our scheduled session, I ask that you email me your Workout Log. This log tracks your accomplishments, challenges, opportunities, insights and goals since our last session. The Workout Log creates the agenda of what you'd like to discuss and what you'd like coaching on during the session. At the end of the session, we create accountability by deciding, together, what actions you will take before the next session. These actions are based on what we were working on during the session. This interaction creates clarity and moves you into action. Between sessions, phone or email communication is available depending on the level of service.

  9. What can I expect from you as a coach?

I am honest, direct and use humor when appropriate. I focus on your strengths and creativity. I believe you know yourself best. Upholding your goals, dreams and values during difficult periods is of high importance to me as your coach. I am flexible, open-minded, and learn from each person that I coach. I expect you to be willing to try new possibilities that originate from coaching sessions, knowing that, at times, these possibilities put you outside your comfort zone. I am aware of my limitations and will admit when I do not know an answer. In these situations, I will provide a referral to a source that possesses the knowledge or expertise that you need.
