What is the Peoplemap™?
The Peoplemap™ refers to a brief psychological instrument called the Peoplemap™ Questionnaire developed in 1990 by Dr. Michael Lillibridge and Dr. Andy Mathis. It consists of seven questions and has a 95% accuracy rate in measuring four core Personality Types:
- Leader
- People
- Task
- Free Spirit
Each Peoplemap™ Personality Type has three in-born strengths, as well as an area of development that is called the Achilles Heel. When understood, the Achilles Heel can be turned into a learned strength.
When used in individual coaching, the Peoplemap™ helps clients understand their personality type and how their type affects their ability to achieve goals, manage stress and communicate effectively with others.
The Peoplemap™ creates three distinct shifts for individual clients.
- They stop blaming themselves for how they think and act. They realize that their type is who they are and it influences their responses and holds valuable strengths to be leveraged in order for them to achieve their goals.
- If they do not like how they respond or act, they understand how to overcome their Achilles Heel and learn new strengths that enhance their performance and communication.
- They communicate more effectively and improve their relationships.
The Peoplemap™ provides an excellent structure for ongoing, individual coaching. Or, a Peoplemap™ can be administered as a one-time assessment, with a report and coaching debrief about the report, included.
Praise for the Peoplemap™
I never realized there was a reason behind my actions, thoughts, and feelings in relationships with other people. I see myself clearly now and I understand how to communicate better. The Peoplemap has helped me find positive and successful ways to communicate with my husband who is the polar opposite type from me. I learned to present solutions to him in his own leader type in order to accomplish harmony.

I wanted to let you know how much I found the Peoplemap process helpful in improving my managerial skills. It is extremely “user friendly” and simple to incorporate managerial techniques right away. I was immediately able apply the information I learned in the first session and follow-up sessions challenged me to further apply what had been presented. This allowed me to “learn” the information much more thoroughly than if I had just been presented with it. The information on how to communicate with different “types” of people was particularly helpful in allowing me to work through some difficult situations with my boss. I found the Peoplemap approach very positive and that it quickly allowed me to identify and implement potential solutions to communication problems within our team.
- Satisfied, mid-level manager
